Gynaecological Pelvic Ultrasound

A gynaecological or pelvic ultrasound involves assessment of the female pelvic organs (uterus and ovaries). Both a transabdominal and a transvaginal (internal) scan will be performed in most cases. Upper Abdomen Ultrasound

An upper abdominal ultrasound involves the assessment of various organs including the liver, spleen, kidneys, gall bladder, pancreas and aorta. An upper abdominal ultrasound requires fasting preparation. Renal Ultrasound

Obstetric Ultrasound

An obstetric ultrasound refers to the assessment of a woman’s pregnancy including screening for fetal abnormalities. Obstetric ultrasounds may be used at various stages of the pregnancy to obtain valuable information to assist your healthcare team to support, inform and guide your ongoing care. The type of obstetric scan you may need depends on the gestational (baby) age. There are several routine scans required throughout your pregnancy. Additional scans may be requested by your obstetrician to monitor the ongoing progress to ensure the health and well-being of you and your baby are closely monitored. Most obstetric ultrasounds require fluid preparation. Vascular Ultrasound

 A vascular ultrasound refers to the assessment of the arteries or veins in the body. It is also known as a duplex or Doppler scan. A vascular ultrasound primarily assesses blood flow and may help to diagnose many conditions. There are a range of different vascular examinations your doctor may request. There are some arterial examinations which require fasting preparation. Thyroid Ultrasound

A thyroid ultrasound assesses the thyroid gland and adjacent structures in the neck. There are many reasons your doctor may refer you for a thyroid scan, these include: swelling, a lump or discomfort in the front of your neck, difficulty swallowing, abnormal blood test results, signs and symptoms of thyroid related conditions. There is no preparation required for his type of examination. Testes Ultrasound

A testes ultrasound assesses the scrotal area including the testes, epididymis and adjacent structures. There are many reasons your doctor may refer you for a testes scan, most commonly these include: swelling, pain or discomfort in the scrotal region or a lump felt by you or your doctor. There is no preparation required for his type of examination. Breast Ultrasound

A breast ultrasound assesses the breast tissue, areola (nipple) and axilla (underarm). Breast ultrasound is often performed in conjunction with a mammogram. There are many reasons your doctor may refer you for a breast scan, most commonly these include:  a lump felt by you or your doctor, discharge from the areola, tenderness or focal pain. There is no preparation required for his type of examination. Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

A musculoskeletal ultrasound refers to all areas of the body that contain joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments. Musculoskeletal ultrasound is often performed in conjunction with a plain x-ray, this provides an assessment of bony structures not seen on ultrasound. Musculoskeletal ultrasounds can be used to investigate sports and work-related injuries as well as causes of chronic musculoskeletal pain.
